"Man is one of those animals which is in danger from its too successful participation in the struggle for existence…from the standpoint of nature as a whole, he is both a threat to every other living thing, and therefore, a threat to himself also…he has become the tyrant of the Earth, the waster of its resources, the creator of the most prodigious imbalance in the natural order which has ever existed…"

Joseph Wood Krutch, The Voice of the Desert

'The cycles of parasites are often diabolically ingenious. It is to the unwilling host that their ends appear mad. Has earth hosted a new disease – that of the world eaters? Then inevitably the spores must fly. Short-lived as they are, they must fly. Somewhere far outward in the dark, instinct may intuitively inform them, lies the garden of the worlds. We must consider the possibility that we do not know the real nature of our kind. Perhaps Homo sapiens, the wise, is himself only a mechanism in a parasitic cycle, an instrument for the transference, ultimately, of a more invulnerable and heartless version of himself…a biological mutation as potentially virulent in its effects as a new bacterial strain. The fact that its nature appears to be cultural merely enables the disease to be spread with fantastic rapidity. There is no comparable episode in history…'

LOREN EISELEY, 'THE WORLD EATERS' in The Star-Thrower

"Maui's dolphin or popoto (Cephalorhynchus hectori maui) is the world's rarest and smallest known subspecies of dolphin.[1] They are a subspecies of the Hector's dolphin. Maui's dolphin are only found off the west coast of New Zealand's North Island. Hector's and Maui's are New Zealand's only endemic cetaceans.[2] Maui's dolphins are generally found close to shore in groups or pods of several dolphin. They are generally seen in water shallower than 20 m deep, but may also range further offshore.
The dolphin is threatened by set-netting and trawling. Based on estimates from 2012, in May 2014 the World Wildlife Fund in New Zealand launched "The Last 55" campaign, calling for a full ban over what it believed is their entire range.[3][4] The International Whaling Commission supports more fishing restrictions, but the New Zealand government has resisted the demands and questioned the reliability of the evidence presented to the IWC that Maui's dolphins inhabit the areas they are said to inhabit.[5][6][7] In June 2014, the government decided to open up 3000 km2 of the West Coast North Island Marine Mammal Sanctuary - the main habitat of the Maui's dolphin - for oil drilling. This amounts to one-quarter of the total sanctuary area.[8] In May 2015, estimates suggested that the population had declined to 43-47 individuals, of which only 10 were mature females.[9]"
"Megalomania is a psychopathological condition characterized by delusional fantasies of power, relevance, omnipotence, and by inflated self-esteem....When linked to a position of power, whether military, political, or control-freak bureaucratical,[12] it is likely to lead to miscalculation as a by-product of the subject's conceit.[13]

"In biology and ecologyextinction is the end of an organism or of a group of organisms (taxon), normally a species. The moment of extinction is generally considered to be the death of the last individual of the species, although the capacity to breed and recover may have been lost before this point. Because a species' potential range may be very large, determining this moment is difficult, and is usually done retrospectively."

"If the dolphins are meant to survive without human help, then maybe they aren't meant for this planet any longer."

Tania D. Fremantle WA

This statement by a person in Australia who purported to be organizing a film festival to raise money to 'save the Maui's dolphins' typifies the level of insanity that we have sunken to.  Maui's dolphins on the brink of extinction in Aotearoa is not only a testament to 'civilized man' as 'tyrant of the Earth' and 'world-eating spore-bearer' but also to the 'species megalomania' and poly-macro-shared-delusional-system that we think of as 'reality'; to our psycho-lame Huxwellian Or-world in which not only can this be happening in full view in a wealthy 'first world' Anglo-American country that bills itself ad nauseum as '100% CLEAN AND GREEN' but even worse, that the people of New Zealand...among whom I count as some of my nearest and dearest friends and loved ones...can barely do more than sigh, 'It's a shame, isn't it?'

'Civilized man' is essentially a poacher of all that lives and breathes, including himself. Essential qualitative differences may not exist to distinguish homo sapiens from other life-forms and beings, but one thing DOES distinguish us:  we are the ONLY species on this planet ever to cause the extinction of other species.

Our dMOE or 'distributed mental operating environment' implicitly and explicitly celebrates and glorifies death and killing. I wouldn't be reaching too far to say that the extinction of an entire species by our own hand would be lauded in the shadowy depths of our dementia as a veritable 'trophy' in honour of our destructiveness.

Russian psychoanalyst, historian and scholar Immanuel Velikovsky observed that the rulers of ancient civilizations sought to 'emulate the gods' which translated into 'emulating their destructiveness, the 'gods' being planets, comets and other extra-terrestrial cosmic bodies and forces. Our ancestors witnessed 'theomachy' or 'war of the gods' and were psychologically traumatized for millennia; the people of today carry these repressed memories of planetary cataclysms in our unconscious, yet our refusal to come to grips with their presence has doomed us to recreate scenarios of our own destruction...and that of everything around us.

I think of the cetaceans, the whales and dolphins, as a 'true extra-terrestrial intelligence' and as 'the ultimate indigenous people.'  What is happening with the Maui's dolphins, who are right in the way of the massively over-blown fishing industry AND the exploding hydro-carbon extraction industry in New Zealand, is PRECISELY ANALOGOUS to what is happening with the indigenous people of Australia, in particular, remote communities in the Kimberley who are right in the way of the metastasizing mining industry. They are not being shot with bullets but are being exterminated through institutionalized genocide, bureaucratic necrophilia and 'economic' warfare policy.

The Key administration has made it abundantly clear that they are NOT GOING TO DO ANYTHING to help the Maui's dolphins, especially if it involves any form of control, restraint or regulation on any of the industries whose corrupt tentacles penetrate every corridor of the Beehive. And even IF said regulations or restrictions were legislated into existence, enforcement then becomes the issue. Just like the U.S. Navy, any fishing or 'big oil' company would simply break the law, pay the fine, and continue with 'business as usual', losing less income this way than through abiding by the law.

The whales and dolphins have no idea what money is, yet they suffer and die because of it.

Ultimately, the Maui's dolphin can be seen as a sacrifice that we, homo sapiens, 'man, the wise', are offering up to the Molochs of military-industrial civilization.

'O gods of money and machine, accept this offering of a unique life-form in its entirety, that we may appease your wrath and pray that you continue to deliver unto us, your humble and willing slaves, all products of our hearts' desire, drained and torn from the body of Mother Earth. Guide us on our path to trans-humanism, may all of life be transmogrified into the gaping chasm of your infernal destructiveness.'

Forgive my satire, but it's almost this bad. In conclusion, it's CLEAR that more talking to heads of state, more petitions, more protests are NOT going to make any differences that matter here.

Because human reality consists of US...not THEM but US...everything that each of us does and does not do MATTERS. Who do you think is making the fishing and hydro-carbon industries possible? Who supports them every time they buy and eat fish and buy and burn hydro-carbons? THEM? Think again my friends...is US! That means YOU!

Could it be that when a significant number of people actually begin to realize that what we say means nothing compared to what we DO, and that EVERY PERSON WHO EATS FISH AND WHO DRIVES A CAR is actually a soldier in the war on cetaceans...but who is so delusional they think they are only spectators.
